VICDA’s thriving volunteer program is the foundation of the organizations day to day work. Hundreds of volunteers from several countries have traveled to Kenya to lend a hand in one of VICDA’s many programs. Volunteer programs range from working with children to medical work and volunteers are placed in both urban Nairobi and rural areas such as small towns, Maasai villages and IDP Camps.
VICDA has a positive relationship with Global Volunteer Network, an organization that places volunteers with local organizations, like VICDA. If you would like to become a VICDA volunteer, please apply for the Kenya Program through GVN’s website – we hope to see you in Kenya!
Please take a moment to read personal accounts of past volunteers and their experiences working in Kenya with VICDA.

“Before heading off to Kenya to work with VICDA I had absolutely no idea what to expect. But upon introduction to the organization and the children’s home where I was placed it became clear that this was an organization with a true desire to harness the goodwill of volunteers to real advantage for as many Kenyans who were in need as possible. The evidence of this was all around… at various children’s homes, IDP camps, etc. VICDA busies itself with finding out what people need, and develop practical ways to address those needs.” Niamh from Ireland

“If I had something to say about my experience in Kenya with VICDA, I would just have to say: DO IT! Don’t waste your time thinking why you should or should not do it. I felt alive, full of love and full of that light that you cannot find anywhere else. Give yourself the time and opportunity of enjoying pure happiness!” Majo from Mexico

“Volunteering with VICDA in Kenya taught me to be a leader, as well as, a team member. I also learned how to think less of myself and more of others. My experiences will travel with me wherever I go. Thank you VICDA!” Melinda from USA

“We have always supported various charities – but wanted to see what it was really like on the ground – and also combine this with travel. We were blown away by our experience at Pipeline IDP which included much more than just a clinic – confronting, challenging, heartbreaking at times – yet so rewarding – whilst helping the community advance – we also advanced our life!” Meryl and Peter from Australia

“The results VICDA is achieving in Kenya are unmistakable. In the brief time I was able to volunteer I saw real change taking place. It was a privilege to work alongside such strong, motivated people and I saw a side of Kenya that tourists don’t get to see. I can’t wait to go back.” Tami from USA

“This work has not only changed my life, it has become my life. I have founded my own charity in Australia,Caring for the Children of Africa and journey to Kenya each year to work alongside my cherished friend, Irene. I have a deep sense of gratitude today for the people of Kenya who with their quiet strength and hope, teach me about real love and patience and tolerance.” Annie from Australia

“My first experience with VICDA in 2006 completely changed my life. After spending a month teaching at an understaffed school in Kibera slum I returned home with the conviction of making some dramatic changes in my life. Like many volunteers, my original VICDA program served only as the beginning of what would become a lifelong connection with the Kenyan community. VICDA not only provides a successful avenue to involve oneself with some of the hard-pressing issues affecting the developing world, it connects international volunteers to a welcoming culture, a unique way of life, and opportunity to make a difference.” Joe from USA
